I am currently managing a USDA Farm-to-School project on land leased from the state. I am also the secretary of the Hawaii Public Charter Schools Network. I retired on July 1, 2021 from Connections Public Charter School. The school opened in 2000 as one of Hawaii's first charter schools. Admission preference is given to educationally disadvantaged students (economically disadvantaged, students with a disability, migrant, limited English proficiency, neglected, delinquent, and/or homeless). The school has identified primary needs for relevant education; effective academic intervention supports; and academic and social intervention strategies to promote increased potentials for struggling students. Native Hawaiian values and culture are embraced by the school community and Native Hawaiian students represent the largest portion of the student population. Since 2013 the school has provided a free after- school program for students: Studio Shaka (http://studioshaka.com/). Studio Shaka was founded as a part of an international movement embracing cultural integrations with 21st century skills. Other High Tech Youth Network programs were located in New Zealand, Western Samoa and Fiji.
